The Zonta grant recipients for 2021 attended our Founders’ Day program in November. Representatives from each organization described their missions and the specific programs the Zonta Club is helping to support. Our guests included the following:
- Van Dinh-Kuno, Executive Director of The Refugee and Immigrant Services, explained their program of training, ESL, and procuring culturally appropriate clothing for Afghan women refugees.
- John Stima, President of the Monroe Gospel Mission, shared how the Mission supports women who need a safe place to be and learn independence. Our grant contributes to the necessary living expenses.
- Shayne Nagel, Executive Director of the Arc of Snohomish County, described how the ICAN program for women with physical and mental disabilities provides support and camaraderie.
- Dr. Laura Ballard, a member of the Board of Directors for Peoria Home, shared how they provide sanctuary and support for female survivors of sex trafficking, and prostitution. They offer a 2-year comprehensive recovery program.
- Michelle Dietz, Director of Village Community Services, described their Job Readiness/Life Skills program for individuals with disabilities.
- Kristi Meyers, Chief Development Officer from the Volunteers of America Maud’s House program shared how our grant will assist their emergency shelter for women and children.
- Kerri Mallams, Executive Director of Citrine Health, explained their program for assisting women needing support for bra fitting after experiencing a mastectomy. Our Zonta grant will help pay the salary for a professional bra fitter.
- Jim Dean, Executive Director of the Interfaith Family Shelter, described their new shelter location. Our Zonta Club will assist in purchasing items to help make this a comfortable, inviting place to live.
There were many applications from very deserving organizations which made our final choices very difficult. We hope that our future funding will be such that many more grants will be available.
